Columbus Destroyers News Release

COLUMBUS - The Columbus Destroyers, presented by GermainCars.com, announced today that CD102.5 is the team's official radio partner for the 2019 season. The independent alternative rock station will air all 12 regular season games during the team's 2019 inaugural season.

"We are very excited to be a part of the Arena Football League's franchise resurrection of the Columbus Destroyers," said CD102.5 Owner Randy Malloy. "Having witnessed these fast-paced games in the past, I can say with certainty that we are all looking forward to the thrills and spills associated with this exciting sport. Columbus loves football and now they can get their fix year-round."

"We couldn't be more excited to have CD102.5 as our official radio broadcast station," said Destroyers COO Rich Witmeyer. "They're clearly a leader in the Columbus market and have extensive experience producing live sporting events. As we've stated from the start of this process two months ago, we continue to look for partners who not only share our enthusiasm for this game and our fans, but to help continue the direction Columbus has been going over the last decade plus. We are excited to have found another partner that meets those objectives."

Todd Bell joins the Destroyers as the team's official play-by-play commentator for the 2019 season. Bell brings with him 29 years of broadcasting experience, including serving as Ohio Dominican's radio voice for their football team the last 12 seasons. Bell's previous experience includes 11 years in minor league baseball calling games for the Columbus Clippers and Akron Aeros (now Rubberducks) and has additional experience working with Spectrum News 1, OHSAA Radio Network, and the Lacrosse Sports Network.

George Cooper joins the booth as the team's color commentator. The Westerville native played fullback for The Ohio State University from 1984-87 and spent two years in the Arena Football League, playing for the Columbus Thunderbolts in 1991 and Cleveland Thunderbolts in 1992.

"[Todd] Bell brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in calling football games," added Witmeyer. "To be able to partner him with a guy like [George] Coop[er], who is from the area, played at Ohio State and has experience playing in this league is a big deal for us. Those guys will do a great job and will continue to enhance the experience for all of our fans who tune in."

Columbus kicks off their inaugural 2019 campaign next Saturday, April 27th at 7:00 pm when they take on the Albany Empire at Times Union Center. Full coverage of the Destroyers season opener can be heard live on CD102.5.
