
Delta, Franklin Product Maurice Holmes Back in Stockton

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Lightning of the arenafootball2 league announced defensive back Maurice Holmes has been assigned to the team by the af2 League Office, OL/DL Maurice Murray has been activated from recallable reassignment and WR David Sutton has been placed on the injured reserve list.
Holmes, 25, returns to the Stockton area as a second-year pro and a product of San Joaquin Delta (Calif.) Community College and Franklin High in Stockton. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound defensive back spent last season with the Central Valley Coyotes of the af2, ranking fourth on the Coyotes with 42.5 tackles while helping guide the team to a berth in the ArenaCup Playoffs.
The Stockton, Calif. native led the Coyotes with 22 pass breakups last season and notched two interceptions in 11 games. Holmes made his debut in 2007 during an injury-shortened season with Central Valley, recording six tackles and one interception.
Holmes split his college career between Delta and the University of Charleston (NCAA), helping guide Delta to an undefeated season in 2002 and a Mid-Empire Conference Championship. Holmes concluded his college career at Charleston, where he set the program record with a 71-yard punt return in 2003.
Sutton, 24, has caught 13 passes for two touchdowns and 155 receiving yards, suiting up in two games this season for the Lightning.
The Lightning return home for their next game for Week 8 action on Saturday, May 16, facing the Rio Grande Valley Dorados at 7:00 p.m. at Stockton Arena, the first ever meeting between both teams.
