D-Fenders Win Western Conference; Advance to D-League Finals

AUSTIN, TX - The D-Fenders beat the Austin Spurs 117-104 tonight in Austin, TX to clinch the Western Conference Championship and a berth in the NBA D-League Finals.

Ryan Gomes (35 points, 12 rebounds) led the D-Fenders (2-1). Justin Harper (25 points, 8 rebounds) and Vander Blue (21 points) both reached the 20-point mark, while Josh Magette (16 points) and Andre Ingram (15 points) also finished in double-figures for Los Angeles.

Brandon Fields (27 points) paced the Spurs (1-2). Demetri McCamey (18 points), Deshaun Thomas (16 points), Keifer Sykes (16 points) and Youssou Ndoye (11 points) all scored in double-digits for Austin.

Austin got off to a hot start, outscoring Los Angeles 32-24 in the first quarter despite eight points apiece from Blue and Gomes for the D-Fenders. Gomes (16 points) and Harper (13 points) were on fire in the second quarter, shooting a combined 11-of-12 as the D-Fenders outscored the Spurs 38-20 in the frame. At the half, Los Angeles led 62-52.

A back-and-fourth third quarter finished with the D-Fenders outscoring the Spurs 24-20 to take an 86-72 advantage into the fourth quarter. Fields was unstoppable for Austin in the fourth, scoring 19 points on 7-of-10 attempts, but the D-Fenders would pull away behind 10 fourth quarter points from Magette.

Los Angeles shot .592 from the field, compared to .494 for Austin. The D-Fenders hit 20-of-21 free throws, while the Spurs shot 12-of-15. Los Angeles forced 16 turnovers, finishing with 10 steals as a team.

Los Angles hosts the Sioux Falls Skyforce in Game 1 of the D-League Finals on Sunday at 4pm PT in El Segundo, CA.
