D-Fenders Rout Spurs to Begin Road Swing

CEDAR PARK, Texas - The Los Angeles D-Fenders cruised to a victory over the Austin Spurs on Sunday at the H-E-B Center, 132-104, behind 28 points each from guards Josh Magette and Vander Blue.

Los Angeles (22-6) controlled the contest throughout the afternoon, even leading by double digits for more than three quarters of the game. Seven of the team's nine available players would finish in double figures.

Magette paced a starting lineup that combined for 101 points on the afternoon, and he added four rebounds, five assists and three steals. Meanwhile, Blue had nine rebounds in addition to his point total. David Nwaba (18 points, seven rebounds, three steals), Speedy Smith (13 points, five assists), Justin Harper (12 points, six rebounds) and Troy DeVries (11 points) each scored more than 10 points. Jeff Ayres added the team's only double-double with 15 points and 10 boards.

Austin (13-16) was led by a 20-point, eight-rebound performance from sixth man Hollis Thompson as five Spurs players finished in double figures.

Magette and Blue combined for 21 points to give LA the lead after the first quarter, 36-25. Magette's efficiency only continued into the second period, where the third-year D-Fender finished the first half with a career-high 25 points, three rebounds, four assists and three steals. Los Angeles outscored the Spurs, 41-20, in the second frame, totaling a season-best 77 first-half points.

The D-Fenders bench began to see extended minutes in the third quarter as the team maintained a 30+ point advantage. Los Angeles led by as much as 37 points in the third frame, the team's biggest lead over any opponent this season.

Overall, Los Angeles shot an efficient 54.2 percent on the day and connected on 17 attempts from three-point range, trying a season high.

The D-Fenders will continue their road stretch with a contest against the Texas Legends later this week. Tipoff is currently set for 5 p.m. PT on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at the Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco.
