Los Angeles D-Fenders News Release
EL SEGUNDO - The Los Angeles D-Fenders needed all 48 minutes to sneak past the Santa Cruz Warriors just seven days ago, but Saturday's matchup with the California rival was a different story.
Playing in front of a sold out Toyota Sports Center crowd, Los Angeles (3-1) used 100 points from the team's five starters to throttle the Warriors, 134-109.
In a night defined by high-powered offense, it was Josh Magette that facilitated LA's every move as he finished with 19 points and a NBA D-League season-high 17 assists. Vander Blue led the team in scoring with 28 points, six rebounds and four assists. Meanwhile, Travis Wear contributed a season-high 23 points. Justin Harper (19), Troy DeVries (11), Roscoe Smith (15) and David Nwaba (10) each finished in double figures on the night.
After a back-and-forth first quarter put Santa Cruz (2-2) up by a point, 29-28, the D-Fenders came to life in the second frame. Led by 14 second quarter points from Wear, Los Angeles raced out to a 69-51 halftime lead, and the home team wouldn't look back.
The Warriors were led by Los Angeles Clippers assignment Diamond Stone, who finished with 31 points and nine rebounds on the day, while guards Phil Pressey (21), Cam Jones (20) and Elgin Cook (15) each had more than 10 points in the contest.
Los Angeles controlled nearly every statistical category for the evening, shooting 54.1 percent from the field, compared to Santa Cruz's 40.2 percent. Furthermore, the D-Fenders controlled the glass by way of a 52-37 margin while connecting on 16-of-31 shots from three-point range.
LA's 134 points is the team's highest total of the year. Additionally, Blue became the D-Fenders' all-time leader in defensive rebounds with his fifth board of the night. Likewise, Magette moved up in the league's all-time record books, advancing to No. 17 on the all-time NBA D-League assists list.
The D-Fenders will close out their three-game homestand against the Northern Arizona Suns on Wednesday, Nov. 17. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. from the Toyota Sports Center.
