Florida Fire Frogs News Release
BRADENTON, Fla. - Brett Cumberland erupted for three RBI, and Ian Anderson tossed seven quality innings for his first win of the season in the Florida Fire Frogs' 4-3 victory over the Bradenton Marauders at LECOM Park on Thursday night. The victory gave the Fire Frogs the series split in the four-game set, after the Atlanta Braves' affiliate dropped the first two games on Monday and Tuesday.
Anderson (1-3) surrendered a two-run shot off the bat of Lucas Tancas in the second inning, but held Bradenton (30-25) off the board through his remaining five frames. The 20-year-old scattered five hits and walked three men, but also picked up five punchouts on a season-high, 99 pitches - 60 strikes - for his first victory since June 14, 2017 (17 starts).
Florida (24-32) responded with a two-spot in the top of the third to quickly erase the deficit. Cristian Pache (2x4, 2 R, 2B, 3B) picked up his first of two extra-base hits with a leadoff double to start out the frame, and moved up to third when Shean Michel's (1x4, R, 2B) roller to third turned into an errant throw by Hunter Owen. Cumberland (2x4, R, HR, 3 RBI) bounced a grounder to the right side that caromed off the glove of Alfredo Reyes, allowing Pache to score and Michel to move to third.
Kurt Hoekstra (0x4, RBI) legged out a potential double-play ball to second, pushing across Michel to tie the game at two apiece.
The score remained the same until Pache tripled down the line in left to begin the sixth, and walked home to score on Cumberland's drive over the wall in right to give the Fire Frogs the two-run edge.
Dan Lietz (SV, 1) made his team debut on Thursday night, and worked perfect eighth. The southpaw allowed an RBI single with two outs to Reyes in the final frame, but set down Arden Pabst on a liner into the glove of Michel in left to lock down his first save of the season.
Florida heads back home to Osceola County Stadium to start a seven-game homestand with game one of a three-game series against the Jupiter Hammerheads on Friday night. LHP Kyle Muller (0-1, 3.91) takes the mound in the opener for the home team, while it has yet to be announced who will face the lefty for the visitors. First pitch is scheduled for 6:31 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:15 p.m. with the Florida Fire Frogs Pregame Show on the Florida Fire Frogs Broadcasting Network.
Friday is Latin Night at the ballpark, where the Fire Frogs will transform into Los Coquis with their specialty jerseys. The series opener is also bark in the park, presented by Just 4 Dogs, where fans can bring their four-legged friends to Osceola County Stadium. The first 50 dogs will receive a water bowl courtesy of Just 4 Dogs and the Florida Fire Frogs.
