Colorado Ice Regular Season Ends with 10-4 Record

June 16, 2014 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Colorado Crush News Release

Fort Collins, CO - It wasn't the ideal regular season ending but the Colorado Ice fell to the Tri-Cities Fever this weekend 33-47. The important thing is that the Ice have the Intense Conference Championship against the Nebraska Danger to focus on this Thursday at the Budweiser Events Center at 7:00pm.

Because the Ice did not need a win to seal their playoff fate there was no sense of urgency and there was a big difference in player's positions and coaching. Starting quarterback Willie Copeland and Head Coach Heron O'Neal did not walk on the field the second half.

Runza Player of the Game and backup quarterback Jake Johnson took Copeland's spot the send half and had 42 yards, 41 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. He also had two solo tackles at the linebacker position. One of the most memorable plays of the game was when receiver Jasonus Tillery stepped behind the center to throw a touchdown pass to defensive back, Deante Purvis.

Joe Thornton continues to be the Ice's defensive leader and MVP style with 10 total tackles. Markell Carter was the next best and did better overall with nine total tackles, one for a four yard loss, a sack, and a forced fumble.

The tempo however remained in the favor of the Tri-Cities Fever, similar to the last loss the Ice had at the Toyota Center. The Ice had 10 penalties that accounted for 78 yards, some of which were very questionable. The Fever scored on every possession except for one in the last minute of the game. They went six of nine on third downs, had 230 yards and four scoring players.

The Ice will have a short week with the Thursday playoff game. Again, the game will take place at 7:00 PM on Thursday, June 19th at the Budweiser Events Center. To purchase tickets call the Colorado Ice office at 970-472-0128 or stop by the Budweiser Events Center Box Office and online at www.ComcastTix.com.
