Colorado Ice Players Workout for Oakland Raiders Scout

July 11, 2014 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Colorado Crush News Release

Loveland, CO - On July 9th, the Colorado Ice Head Coach Heron O'Neal and his staff were able to secure a private workout for six active Colorado Ice players and one former Colorado Ice player with Oakland Raiders regional scout Dave McCloughan and his father Kent McCloughan, a former Raiders Player and Scout. The players put up some great numbers in the combine workout, possibly getting an opportunity to be brought into the 2014 NFL Season camp.

The players being evaluated were #8 Kyle Kaiser Wide Receiver, #20 Corey Sample Defensive Back/Safety, #1 Joe Thornton Linebacker/Defensive Back, #18 Harcourt Farquharson Defensive Back/Safety, #13 Willie Copeland Quarterback, #98 Markell Carter Defensive End, and Mark Henderson Wide Receiver (Ice player 2011-12).

Just coming out of the playoff season the Ice players were not as fresh as other football prospects that train for months prior to the combines to get their speed and agility up to the level the NFL Scouts are looking for. Getting a 4.4 second 40 yard dash is the goal for any player looking to get a spot on an NFL roster.

The Colorado Ice recruits players that have played in the NFL, CFL and NCAA - Division I, II, and III. There is also that rare athlete that, for whatever reason, did not get the opportunity to play in a college program but has the raw talent and athleticism to become a star.

In 2012, Mario Henderson (NFL- Raiders/Chargers) was signed by the Ice as an offensive linemen and he used that time to get more film which got him back on the NFL Scouts radar so he could be in the San Diego Charges 2013 Season Camp.

During the 2013 Season, Marty Markett Safety and Kick Return Specialist was signed mid-season to the Canadian Football League and has been able to build his resume towards a chance at an NFL squad. Also, in the 2013 off season Gabe Knapton Defensive Linemen for the Ice was signed to the CFL.

Out of the 2014 Colorado Ice player roster, the Ice has six players with NFL experience. Markell Carter was drafted by the New England Patriots, while Malcolm Williams was signed by the Patriots. Justin Helwege was in camp with the Seattle Seahawks, Harcourt Farquharson with the Atlanta Falcons, Deante Purvis with the San Francisco 49ers and Dequinta "DD" Jones was with the Jaguars and Seahawks.

Every player that signs with the Colorado Ice has the opportunity to move up and the Ice organization looks forward to putting players into the NFL and CFL. Because of that, throughout an Indoor Football League season, you will see many changes in the team rosters. Any players interested in playing for the Colorado Ice can send film, resumes, etc. to goice@thecoloradoice.com.
