Carolina Cobras News Release

CHARLOTTE – The Carolina Cobras of the Arena Football League announced today that former Independence High School standout lineman DeAngelo Lloyd has been added to the active roster for Saturday's contest with the Columbus Destroyers. The team also placed wide receiver/linebacker Sir Mawn Wilson on the injured reserve list and released wide receiver/linebacker Jack Walker Jr.

Lloyd (6-4, 285, Tennessee), who is in his first season as an offensive/defensive lineman in the AFL, spent the first four games of the 2004 campaign on Carolina's active roster before signing with the practice squad in early March. A former Parade All-American at Independence High School, he most recently spent time with the NFL Washington Redskins prior to the 2003 season. Lloyd, who was named MVP of the 2000 Shrine Bowl, also has spent time with the Green Bay Packers, New York Jets and Cleveland Browns since graduating from the University of Tennessee in 2000.

Wilson (6-2, 210, Syracuse) will be lost for at least two weeks of action after re-injuring his neck, an injury which also forced him to miss the Cobras' March 27 battle at New Orleans. In 11 games this season, the six-year veteran stands fifth on the team with 19 receptions for 179 yards and a score, while also adding 22.0 tackles and a 32-yard interception for a touchdown on defense. Last season, Wilson had a career season as a member of the Buffalo Destroyers, finishing the season fourth on the roster with 39 receptions for 412 yards and three touchdowns.

Walker Jr. (6-4, 186, Kent State) made a successful return to the AFL after spending the last two seasons with Peoria and Pensacola of af2. This season, he posted career highs with 40 receptions for 412 yards and seven touchdowns. A member of the Iowa Barnstormers/New York Dragons franchise from 1998 to 2001, Walker Jr. also added 16.5 tackles and two fumble recoveries for touchdowns on defense.

Carolina hosts the Columbus Destroyers this Saturday, May 1 at the Charlotte Coliseum. The Eastern Division battle with the Ohio squad will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. (EST). The festivities surrounding the contest include a pregame blood drive hosted by the American Red Cross (4:00 – 8:30 p.m.) and halftime entertainment featuring Live Action Wrestling superstars Buff Bagwell, Rick Steiner, Money Mike and Tommy Gunn.
