Charge Drop Season Opener in Greensboro

The Canton Charge (0-1), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, fell on the road to the Greensboro Swarm (1-0), 123-88, to open their 2017-18 NBA G League campaign.

Kendrick Perkins paced Canton with a double-double of 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting with 12 rebounds and three blocks in 25 minutes in his first bit of NBA G League action. John Holland scored 11 points with eight rebounds, six assists and two steals in 37 minutes. JaCorey Williams scored 11 points and grabbed seven boards in 27 minutes. The Charge turned the ball over 25 times as a team resulting in 26 Swarm points.

Greensboro was led by 23 points in 24 minutes off the bench from Jalen Jones. Mangok Mathiang posted a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds in 24 minutes for the Swarm. Marcus Paige added a double-double of his own with 14 points and 10 assists in 26 minutes.

The Charge now move to 1-6 all-time in season opening games, with their lone win coming in 2013 against the Erie BayHawks. Canton is also the only NBA G League team to qualify for the playoffs in each of the last six seasons.

Canton will next head south for their first-ever matchup against the inaugural Lakeland Magic (Orlando Magic) on Friday, November 10th at 7:00 p.m. The Charge will have their Home Opener presented by The Canton Repository at the Memorial Civic Center on Wednesday, November 15th at 7:00 p.m. against the Memphis Hustle (Memphis Grizzlies).
