Cleveland Charge News Release
The Canton Charge, presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, defeated the Maine Red Claws, 115-114, in Round 1, Game 1 of the NBA D-League Eastern Conference Playoffs. The Charge lead 1-0 in the best-of-three game series.
Maine led the entire game until a 9-0 Canton run capped off by a Nick Minnerath three-pointer gave the Charge their first advantage at the 3:39 mark of the fourth, 102-101. The two teams went on to trade the lead five more times and tie once before Quinn Cook's driving layup with 6.9 seconds remaining put Canton up 115-114. Corey Walden's game winning attempt came up short as time expired, completing Canton's comeback as they trailed by as many as 15 points in the second half.
Canton had four players score 20 or more points, led by John Holland's franchise playoff record of 30 on 12-of-19 shooting with two steals in 43 minutes. Cook registered a double-double of 26 points and 10 assists to go along with five rebounds in 39 minutes of action. Minnerath provided a double-double of his own with 25 points and 10 rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench. Michael Stockton also posted a double-double of 21 points and 10 assists with three steals in 37 minutes.
The Red Claws were paced by Coty Clarke's 26 points and 16 rebound performance. Marcus Thornton netted 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting in 32 minutes. Jordan Mickey, assigned by the Boston Celtics earlier in the day, played 23 minutes off the bench, scoring 16 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Maine finished the game shooting 51% from the field.
Game 2 will head to Maine and the Cross Insurance Arena on Thursday, April 7th at 7:00 p.m., with the matchup being broadcast live on YouTube via www.CantonCharge.com. Fans can get in the conversation on social media throughout the team's 2016 postseason run by using #FiveStrong.
