Braves Win Slug Fest

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves out slugged the Savannah Sand Gnats 10-8 Thursday evening at State Mutual Stadium in front of 3,106 fans. The Braves and Sand Gnats had a total of 33 hits in the game.

After falling behind 2-0, Rome tied the game in the bottom of the third inning on RBI singles by Willie Cabrera and Tyler Flowers. Savannah took a one run lead in the fourth on an RBI single by Josh Thole. Rome bounced back in the bottom of the fifth inning with four big runs taking the lead 6-3 with all four runs coming after two outs. With the bases loaded, Cabrera scored on a wild pitch to tie the game 3-3. Danny Brezeale then blasted a massive three-run homer giving the Braves the 6-3 advantage.

The Sand Gnats then mounted a comeback to tie the game in the eighth inning. Daniel Stegall, Greg Veloz, Thole, Leivi Ventura all had RBI singles in the inning. Rome took the lead for good in the bottom of the eighth. Willie Cabrera walked and moved to third on a single by Tyler Flowers. After a Chase Fontaine walk, Jon Mark Owings singled home two runs giving the Braves the 10-8 lead. Tyler Wilson closed the game for the Braves to earn the win (3-2) and David Koons was tagged with the loss for Savannah (1-3).
