Bayhawks Drop Matinee Match Against 87ers

ERIE, Pa. - The Erie BayHawks (11-28) were taken down by the Delaware 87ers (22-17) this afternoon at Erie Insurance Arena, 123-103. Delaware has won all three meetings between these two teams this season. The BayHawks and 87ers will meet again for the final game of the regular season on Saturday, April 1, in Erie.

The BayHawks opened the game on a 14-5 run, leading by as many as 13 points (18-5) at the 6:32 mark of the first quarter. After a late run for the 87ers, the first quarter ended with a five-point Erie lead, 31-26. The BayHawks extended their lead heading into the intermission of this afternoon's contest, 61-51. Leading the charge for the BayHawks in the opening half was Gabe York with a game-high 15 points on 7-10 (.700) shooting, while Russ Smith was the top-scorer in the half for Delaware, registering a team-high 14 points.

The 87ers began the second half on a 28-17 run, taking a two-point, 79-78, lead off of an Aaron Harrison three-pointer. Harrison's triple at the 3:48 mark of the third quarter gave the 87ers their first lead of the ball game. Delaware outscored Erie in the third quarter, 39-26, holding a three-point, 90-87, advantage to start the final quarter of play. The 87ers extended their lead to double-digits, 105-94, with 6:43 left in regulation. Delaware's second half surge proved to be too much for Erie, as the BayHawks fell, 123-103.

Delaware had seven players score in double-figures (Aaron Harrison-30, Russ Smith-17, James Web III-15, Shawn Long-15, Devondrick Walker-13, Nate Robinson-12, Carlos Lopez-12). Harrison registered his 30 points on 11-14 (.786) shooting from the floor, including a perfect 8-8 (1.000) clip from three-point territory, six rebounds, two assists and two steals in 36 minutes of action.

Erie was led by Shevon Thompson, who notched his second straight double-double, with a team-high 21 points on 9-12 (.750) shooting, a team-high 12 rebounds (six offensive) and three steals in 24 minutes of play. Gabe York contributed 20 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in 36 minutes. Newly acquired Stefan Jankovic finished with 13 points on 5-7 (.714) shooting and five rebounds in 24 minutes as a reserve.
