St. John's IceCaps News Release

IceCaps Care donated $209,600 to 42 local charities during the 2014-15 American Hockey League (AHL) season.

"Since we launched this franchise in 2011, the St. John's IceCaps have been committed to excellence on the ice and service to the community," said IceCaps President and CEO Danny Williams. "We're proud of the legacy we've created in the community and look forward to many more years of supporting worthy local charities."

IceCaps Care raises funds for various educational, wellness and youth programs, and provides support to local charitable organizations. These funds are raised primarily through the sale of 50/50 tickets during IceCaps home games, as well as in-kind donations and other fundraising initiatives. IceCaps players and mascot Buddy the Puffin also make hospital, school and other community-group visits during the season.

The nearly $210,000 donation is in addition to funds donated by IceCaps Care partner, The Williams Family Foundation, which places a priority on assisting children facing health challenges.

Over the past four seasons, IceCaps Care and the Williams Family Foundation have donated approximately $2 million through financial and in-kind donations, impacting more than 800 organizations throughout the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
