Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors today announced plans to host a Pajama Night on Saturday, March 7th during the home game vs. the Idaho Stampede tipping off at 7:00pm. Fans are encouraged to wear pajamas to the game as well as bring a new pair to donate to Project Pajamas.
Project Pajamas was started in 2007 by Santa Cruz County Superior Court Judge Ariadne Symons. The project aims to bring a sense of comfort to children in a time of crisis for those in homeless shelters, transitional housing, or other "Ëout of home' settings in Santa Cruz. When Symons started the project, she estimated there were 600 homeless children in the county on any given day. Some of the organizations that benefit from Project Pajamas are the Pajaro Valley Shelter, Sienna House, Haven of Hope and Rebele Family Homeless Shelter.
"Often, children arrive with the clothes that they have on," said Ariadne Symons. "So we give them a brand new pair of pajamas when they arrive. Maybe that helps them sleep a little sounder that night. It's not going to cure much but it helps so many children in need."
Last week, Warriors head coach Casey Hill and guard Andrew Warren visited the Early Education Center of Santa Cruz for a pajama party playdate with two dozen toddlers, all of whom were wearing new pajamas donated from the organization. Warren, the Warriors newest arrival in Santa Cruz has been dedicating much of his time to community projects since joining the team a few weeks ago.
"It was immediately clear to me how tight-knit of a community Santa Cruz is," said Andrew Warren. "I've really enjoyed helping to fulfill the Warriors mission to give back to the community, especially to the kids. They come out to every game and are our biggest fans, so I'm more than happy to return the support in any way that I can. The Warriors have given me the platform to do so."
