Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors handed the Los Angeles D-Fenders their 8th loss of the season, with a final score of 112-98 on Friday evening. The Warriors have won three straight games to improve their overall season record to 5-3.
Joe Alexander, who was named D-League Performer of the Week on Monday, led the Warriors with a game-high 34 points and 9 rebounds. Elliot Williams came within 1 rebound of a triple-double, posting 27 points, 12 assists, and 9 rebounds while shooting 57.8% from the field. James Michael McAdoo and Sean Kilpatrick, who saw his first start of his D-League career, both scored in double figures, posting 12 and 10 respectively.
Los Angeles was paced by Vander Blue, who scored a team-high 21 points, shooting 70% from the field. Roscoe Smith recorded a double-double, tallying 19 points and 15 rebounds in 35 minutes.
The Warriors and the D-Fenders would play a tightly-contested first quarter, with Roscoe Smith scoring an impressive 9 points in the first 8 minutes of the game. The teams would begin the second quarter locked in at 26-all, but would see Santa Cruz outpacing Los Angeles for the remainder of the game. The Warriors would never trail Los Angeles again after a Dominique Sutton slam dunk with the first basket in the 2nd quarter.
The third quarter opened with Santa Cruz holding a 20-point lead over the D-Fenders. The remainder of the game would see Los Angeles attempt to claw their way back into the game, coming within 7 points of the Warriors. The effort was not enough to back a win for the D-Fenders, as they dropped their 6th straight game.
Santa Cruz kept the edge on field goal percentage (46-42%), rebounds made (52-51), assists made (31-20), and steals (12-5).
The Santa Cruz Warriors home to Kaiser Permanente Arena to face the Austin Spurs on Friday, then take on the Erie BayHawks on Saturday. Fans can listen to the broadcast on the Santa Cruz Warriors flagship station, KION 1460AM/101.1FM, or catch the game on the NBA D-League's YouTube channel, via www.santacruzbasketball.com.
