Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
Erie, Pennsylvania - The Erie BayHawks (4-4) outscored the visiting Sioux Falls Skyforce (3-3) 29-16 in the 4th quarter to end a four game losing streak. Erie was led by Drew Crawford, who paced the scoring for the BayHawks with a season high 26 points. Seth Curry followed with 24 of his own and Peyton Siva earned his second double-double with a season high 21 points and 10 rebounds.
The first quarter was a back and forth battle that featured five lead changes as Sioux Falls went on a 7-2 run to close the frame and led 33-28. After being down by as many as 10 in the second quarter, Erie was able to narrow the gap and eventually tie it at 52 after a Jarvis Williams layup with 1:38 left in the half. Sioux Falls would take a 56-55 first half lead behind Andre Dawkins, who was assigned to the Skyforce by their affiliate the Miami Heat on Thursday. Siva and Lenzelle Smith each tallied 8 points that quarter to keep it close.
The BayHawks regained the lead and controlled most the third quarter after Daniel Coursey nailed a hook shot to give the BayHawks a five point lead with under two minutes left. Sioux Falls then went on a 10-0 run to close the quarter, capped off by a Michael Williams half-court buzzer beater that banked in. Erie trailed heading into the final frame 84-79.
Erie was able to tie the game at 86 just three minutes into the final quarter until Dawkins broke it with a three, his last points of the game. Siva hit a long two with the shot clock closing down to take a 96-95 lead and the BayHawks never looked back. Siva then nailed a three to extend the lead to six with 2:47 to go and then hit another to send Sioux Falls a December dagger. The Skyforce shot just 31% in the 4th quarter and were outscored 22-9 in the last eight and a half minutes of the game.
Lenzelle Smith, who left the game with a 4th quarter injury, tallied 10 points, another season high. Smith, Crawford and Siva all surpassed their highest point totals of the season tonight. Coursey was one rebound shy from a double-double and earned 13 points. Jarvis Williams continued his consistency off the bench with 8 points and 8 rebounds.
Sioux Falls' Larry Drew and Khem Birch each earned double-doubles as Drew led the way with 20 points and 11 assists while Birch scored 18 points and 11 rebounds. Dawkins totaled with 17 off the bench in his NBA Development League debut.
The BayHawks will try to go back over .500 tomorrow night when they host the Grand Rapids Drive at 7:00 PM. The Drive were originally the Springfield Armor the past five years. Erie then has a week break and travels to California to take on the Santa Cruz Warriors next Saturday.
