
Bighorns Offer Free Tickets for Nonperishable Food Donation

RENO, NEV., DEC. 05, 2014- The Reno Bighorns, the St. Paul's Community Food Pantry, along with Wild 102.9 are teaming up for a canned food drive to benefit those who are in need, in the greater Reno/Sparks area this holiday season. The drive will take place during the Bighorns two-game home stand Friday, December 12 at 7 PM and Sunday, December 14 at 5 PM. Fans who make a nonperishable food donation will receive a ticket to the night's game.
Collection will start when doors open at the Reno Events Center one hour prior to tip-off, and will conclude the 4th quarter. Fans can bring any can of nonperishable food to the Events Center entrance, where they will be given a game ticket.
"Prior to law school, I worked as a social worker for an emergency food bank and was saddened to see that children went hungry in Reno," said Bighorns owner Herb Santos, Jr. "I am asking that you join us this weekend by bringing a food donation to the Events Center and enjoy a family friendly, high energy basketball game as we make a dunk on hunger."
The St. Paul's Community Food Pantry served over 29,000 people in 2013. Almost 12,000 of those served were children under the ages of 18, while 2,500 were adults over the ages of 60.
The Bighorns also be offering $5 college student tickets, as well as 50 percent off tickets to all active duty military and veteran families. Concession specials include $2 beer on Friday, and $5 bottomless popcorn and soda both games.
Santa Claus will also be making an appearance at Sunday's game. Starting at 4 p.m., when doors open, Santa will be available to take pictures and visit with kids. Sunday is also Kids Court Day, where all children in attendance are invited to stay after the game to shoot hoops on the Bighorns court with Bruno.
