Altoona Curve News Release

Curve, Pa. - The Altoona Curve won their second straight game against the Bowie Baysox with a 4-3 victory on Saturday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Drew Maggi matched a career-high with four hits in the game and drove the go-ahead run for the Curve in the seventh.

Maggi got the scoring started for the Curve in the first. The second baseman grounded a single to start off the game, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, reached third on a groundout, and scored on a wild pitch to give Altoona a 1-0 lead.

In the second, Keon Broxton tallied the second run of the game for the Curve. The center fielder clubbed a solo home run on the first pitch he saw from Davies over the left field wall. The long ball gave Altoona a 2-0 lead.

In the third, the Baysox struck back to tie the game. After Jhonathan Ramos retired the first two hitters, he issued a walk, single, an RBI single to K.D. Kang, and a run-scoring double by Chris Marrero to even up the score.

Bowie took their only lead in the fourth but the Curve quickly responded. Bowie's All-Star Garabez Rosa hit a solo home run to left that gave Bowie a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Stetson Allie lined a single into left, went first-to-third on a single to right by Willy Garcia, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Carlos Paulino.

In the seventh, Maggi provided Altoona with the final run necessary for victory. Jarek Cunningham grounded into a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a single by Kelson Brown. With runners on second and first, Maggi hit a single into left which scored Cunningham.

In the eighth, the Curve bullpen ran into some issues but Kenn Kasparek came through late. With two-men on and nobody out, the All-Star reliever induced a flyout to right and Niuman Romero was doubled off second. Kasparek then struck out Michael Ohlman to end the eighth and worked a perfect ninth with two more strikeouts en route to his team-best fifth save of the season.

Ramos went 4.2 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits but didn't factor into the decision. Nate Baker (1-0) earned the win after he worked a scoreless inning and allowed a hit. Bowie starter Zach Davies (5-6) suffered the loss.

Altoona will conclude the series with Bowie and the current homestand on Sunday evening in Curve, Pa. Starting for Altoona will be LHP Tom Harlan (0-0, 2.70) and he will be opposed by Bowie All-Star starting pitcher Tim Berry (4-5, 3.89).
