Marion Blue Racers News Release

MARION, OH - After getting to a 5-0 record in their division, the Blue Racers are champions of the CIFL South Division for the 2014 Regular Season. Additionally, with an overall record of 7-2 under Head Coach and GM LaMonte Coleman, the Blue Racers' performance on the field this season is a stark contrast from last season's 2-8 record. Many of the indoor football preseason predictions put MBR at last place in the CIFL.

Despite all of that, they have gone from worst to first in the matter of one season, something not often seen in sports. Coleman attributes it to recruiting and bringing in the right pieces. "After the 2013 Season, I knew that doing everything possible to get the best indoor football talent in here for 2014 would be key to our success," he said.

There is no question that this roster is full of talent with the likes of former Buckeye and 2002 National Champion EJ Underwood at defensive back; a stout defensive line featuring Thomas McKenzie at 6'-1" and 280 lbs, James Spikes at 6'4" and 295 lbs, Terrill Byrd at 6'0" and 275 lbs, and Mike Cross at 6'6" and 320 lbs; The Weapon aka Mike Tatum who has shown his ability to pass, catch, and run for touchdowns; and Arena Football League 2 veteran quarterback Chris Wallace, just to name a few.

This weekend, on Sunday, April 27th at 4pm, the Blue Racers will take on the Port Huron Patriots at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Marion for the final game of the regular season. However, just around the corner is the 2014 CIFL South Conference Championship Game. This game will be played at home in Marion on May 10th at 7:30pm, since the team has the best record in the South. "We are without a doubt focused on the first task at hand which is defeating Port Huron this Sunday, but in addition to that, we are also preparing for the South Conference title game.

It's extremely important, not only because a win puts us in the CIFL Championship Game but because it may also mean that for the first time in history, Marion, OH will host it," Coleman stated.

In order for Marion to host the CIFL Championship Game, the Blue Racers must win on May 10th and the Saginaw Sting must lose their playoff matchup on May 9th. The opponent that MBR will battle for the South Conference title has not been determined but will be the winner of the matchup between the Northern Kentucky River Monsters and the Dayton Sharks on May 3rd in Dayton, OH.
