Detroit Waza Flo Gets Tough Split

December 10, 2013 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL)
Waza Flo News Release

It was a tough weekend for the Detroit WAZA FLO, but they have taken a split and are moving on.

After a grueling eight hour bus trip to meet Illinois Piasa, they came out surprisingly strong. The spark came from new player, Zack Bowman at 2:41 to get them on the board. With Piasa coming back with two quick goals, WAZA FLO scored five in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, and notched three more in the 4th all from veteran Costea Decu. The final score was 9-5 WAZA FLO, with three goals from Decu, two from Bowman and one a piece for Djokic, Mattos, Rice, & Djerisilo.

The team drove after the Piasa game to get into the Chicago area for Sunday's game versus the Mustangs. Arriving at 5 a.m., the team tried to get some rest before gearing up for the match against the undefeated Mustangs. The match was back and forth all night. WAZA FLO was down five goals in the second and fought back to within two, but just didn't have enough to pull it out, and lost 13-9. The goal scorers were Djerisilo & Decu with two a piece, and Sampson, Otieno, Ducker, Wilkes & Byrd all tallying one.

"We really played hard for the two games. We got contributions from the veterans and the newer players. It was tough to take that loss on Sunday night, but for me it is about getting us back to solid training this week and focusing on Chicago coming here on Saturday," noted Detroit WAZA FLO Coach Dominic Scicluna.

Detroit goes to 3-2 on the season, and look forward to the rematch with Chicago this weekend. The game is December 14 vs. Chicago at 7:05 p.m. The arena is located at 4300 S Dearborn St, Melvindale, MI.
