Wichita B-52s News Release

Wichita, Kansas - November 12, 2013 - Saturday night at Hartman Arena was electric, as Wichitans experienced the thrill of indoor soccer again. The home opener was a hard fought battle as the B-52s struggled early to establish control of the game. After trailing the first three quarters (1-3, 4-6, 6-7), Casey Barton launched a rally with his equalizer with only 13 minutes left in the game (assisted by Clare). Less than two minutes later, Heviel Cordoves buried his second on the night to give the B-52s their first lead of the game. Illinois pulled back level with eight minutes left of regulation-time through Blake Ordell. The B-52s earned a free kick at the top of the arch, with six minutes left. Alex Moseley lined up to take the kick, faked the shot, and laid it off to his left where Matt Clare was winding up. Clare struck the ball firmly with the inside of his right foot and tucked away the B-52s' ninth goal of the night, his second, and game winner! The home fans rose to their feet, waved their rally towels, and cheered until the clock ticked down, celebrating the B-52s' first win of the franchise!

"The atmosphere was beyond believable. Soccer belongs in this town, without a doubt. Walking on [the pitch], even just during warm-ups, things felt like home. When we went down 3 goals right away, we knew that the support was still there for us to rally back and go on and get the win. Scoring a game winning goal is always going to be memorable, but the team is much more important than myself. I am asked by our coaches to do certain things and one in which is to score goals. We did that, and we won." Matt Clare, Midfielder, described.

"I am very pleased with the outcome here tonight, not to say that we played the best possible game we can, but because when we made mistakes, we made up for them. The guys fought hard for each other every shift, stayed positive, and pulled it out in the end. We still have a lot of room for improvement and will strive every week to get better and better, which is all I can ask from the team. If we are making progress in the right direction then everything else will take care of itself. I gave the players the weekend to enjoy the win but on Monday, it is time to focus and use the week's training to prepare for Las Vegas, a very good team that is currently undefeated." said Coach Larry Inlow.
