Woodbridge, VA - Potomac Nationals RHP A.J. Cole (4th Rd., 2010) has been named the Carolina League's Pitcher of the Week for the second time in the 2013 season as announced by the Carolina League.

Cole was the starter on the mound when the P-Nats clinched their 2013 First-Half Northern Division Championship on June 13th with an 8-0 shutout victory over the Frederick Keys (Baltimore Orioles) at Harry Grove Stadium.

In that outing, Cole blazed through 7.0 scoreless innings and scattered four base hits while walking just a pair and striking out ten men en route to sealing the deal on a guaranteed 2013 Carolina League playoff spot for the Potomac Nationals.

Cole, 21, has pitched to a (4-2) record in the current campaign and holds an earned run average of 4.16 in '13.

The 6'4", 180 pound flamethrower has won three consecutive outings and is undefeated hurling at home in 2013 with a (3-0) record pitching in front of the P-Nats faithful. A power right-hander, Cole has fanned 82 batters in 71.1 innings pitched and has walked just 18 hitters in 13 starts. The Carolina League is hitting just .261 against Cole in 2013.

Cole last won the league's weekly pitching honor for the period of April 29th through May 6th.

RHP Taylor Hill is the other P-Nats hurler who has earned Carolina League Pitcher of the Week honors this year for his dominance during the qualifying April 15th to April 22nd stretch. Potomac SS Jason Martinson is a two-time winner of the 2013 Carolina League Player of the Week Award, while CF Michael Taylor receive this honor for his hitting prowess during the May 20th through May 27th period.

After serving as one of the centerpieces of a deal that allowed the Washington Nationals to obtain LHP Gio Gonzalez from the Oakland Athletics in December of 2011, Cole was re-acquired this off-season in the three-team trade that sent Washington Nationals LF Michael Morse to the Seattle Mariners.

Cole was signed by the Washington Nationals in 2010 who gave the former Oviedo High School (FL) star $2 million, the highest signing bonus ever for a player drafted in the 4th round.
