Lions Players Earn Week 13 Honors

COLUMBUS, GA - On Tuesday the Professional Indoor Football League announced that Columbus Lions QB Marcus Jones and DL Joshua Gipson earned Week 13 Players of the Week awards.
In his first start under-center since Week 6, Columbus QB Marcus Jones (6'4 225, Duke) accounted for 246 yards of total offense and six touchdowns ending the Lions four-game losing streak with 59-48 victory over the Steelhawks. Splitting the PIFL Week 13 Offensive Player fo the Week award with Albany Panthers QB Cecil Lester, Jones averaged 6.8 yards per rush staking Columbus to an early lead on Sunday scoring their first two touchdowns and put the nail on the coffin scoring their final two TD's. Their win over the Hawks sets up a pivotal game versus Albany with heavy playoff implications, a loss by Columbus ends any hope of making the playoffs.
For the third different time this season, a member of the Columbus Lions defense takes home the Defensive Player of the Week honor with the Week 13 recipient being DL Joshua Gipson (6'1 280, SE Missouri). Gipson lead an altogether strong performance from the Lions who picked off three passes off the PIFL's top-rated passer Adam Bednarik while also sacking him four times. Mid-way in the 2nd quarter, Josh got in the act intercepting a pass and returning it 20-yards for a touchdown in addition to breaking up two passes and getting a sack.
In a pivotal game with heavy playoff implications, this Saturday at 7:30 PM the Columbus Lions host their in-state rivals the Albany Panthers. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive an official 2013 Lions team poster.
