Sporting KC Back on Road at D.C. United on Sunday

May 17, 2013 - Major League Soccer (MLS) - Sporting Kansas City News Release

Sporting Kansas City and D.C. United meet at 4 p.m. CT on Sunday at RFK Stadium for the second of three matches during the 2013 MLS regular season. The Boulevard Members Club at Sporting Park will host the team's official Watch Party with $3 KC Pils available and all in attendance can enter a season-long raffle to win four tickets to the Sporting Passport VIP Experience on Oct. 18.

Sunday's match will be nationally televised on Univision Deportes Network and locally broadcast on KSMO-TV with coverage starting at 3:30 p.m. CT. The Sporting KC Television Network will carry the game across the region on KZOU (Columbia, Mo.), WIBW (Topeka, Kan.), KMTW (Wichita, Kan.) and MC22 (check your local listings). The game will also air live on Sports Radio 810 WHB and La Gran D 1340 AM.

Sporting Kansas City have won their last five matches against D.C. United, and six of the last seven in the series. However, Sporting KC has only won six times out of a possible 22 matches when playing on the road at RFK Stadium.

D.C. United (1-8-1) is winless since their home opener on March 9, and look to end a seven-game slide, the longest in team history, on Sunday that has the team at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Sporting Kansas City handed D.C. United their second loss during the seven-game stretch with a 1-0 victory courtesy of Claudio Bieler's goal in the 89th minute on April 5 at Sporting Park.

Bieler is second in MLS with six goals this season, while D.C. United collectively has scored five times on the campaign. D.C. United forwards Carlos Ruiz (left ankle sprain) and Chris Pontius (right groin strain) are both questionable for Sunday's game due to injury.

Sporting Kansas City holds a narrow 19-18-9 advantage in the all-time series and will look to earn their second straight road result, coming off a 1-0 road win over the Houston Dynamo. Aurelien Collin scored the lone goal in the match but will miss Sunday's match along with central midfielder Oriol Rosell due to caution accumulation.

D.C. United most recently fell 2-1 to FC Dallas at FC Dallas Stadium with goalkeeper Joe Willis getting his first start of the season in place of Bill Hamid. Dwayne De Rosario, a six-time member of the MLS Best XI, scored his first goal of the season, tying Taylor Twellman for the sixth most goals all-time in MLS with 101.

Sporting Kansas City is currently one point back of the New York Red Bulls for the top spot in the Eastern Conference and could be boosted by the return of MLS Defender of the Year Matt Besler, who has missed the team's last three matches due to a knee injury.

Sporting Kansas City supporters can follow the match online via @SKCGameday on Twitter and the SportingKC.com/GameOn page or on mobile devices with the MLS MatchDay app . Additionally, fans outside the local viewing area can watch live on Direct Kick and MLS LIVE .
