Miners Shut Out Otters 6-0

Marion, IL - The Southern Illinois Miners shutout the Evansville Otters at Bosse Field Friday night 6-0. Miners short-stop Tyler Stubblefield went two for four with three runs batted in.

The Miners struck first in the top of the second inning off Otters starting pitcher Ricky Bowen when Carlos Mendez hit a base hit to score Jason Ganek to give the Miners a 1-0 lead. With Ken Gregory on third base, Mario Mercedes hit a sacrifice fly to score Gregory and extend the Miners lead 2-0.

The Miners added another run in the top of the third inning off Otters pitcher David Kubiak when Gerardo Avila hit a base hit to score Tyler Stubblefield. The Miners led 3-0 but wouldn't stop there.

In the top of the fourth inning off Kubiak, Tyler Stubblefield grounded into a fielder's choice to score Cannon Lester to give the Miners a 4-0 lead.

The Miners would complete their scoring in the top of the sixth inning when Tyler Stubblefield added a double to score Jon Eisen and Alan Cheatham to give Southern Illinois a 6-0 lead.

Miners starting pitched Richard Sullivan tossed three scoreless innings and recorded three strikeouts. Travis Bradshaw struck out two in two innings of work. Dayne Quist added two scoreless innings. Drew Bailey and Brandon Cunniff each tossed a scoreless inning.
