
Defenseman Patrick Wellar Assigned from Hershey to Reading

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced that defenseman Patrick Wellar has been assigned to Reading from Hershey. In separate transactions also announced today, the Royals: (i) activated defenseman Brock Shelgren from the Playoff Reserve List; (ii) placed forward Barry Almeida on Playoff Reserve List; and (iii) placed defenseman Dominic Jalbert on the Playoff Reserve List.
Wellar (6'3/219) (29), a ninth year pro who was born in Carrot River, Saskatchewan, played thirty-seven games with the Royals during the regular season, recording fifteen points (2g-13a) and forty-five penalty minutes in three separate stints with Reading. Wellar was recalled to Hershey for the third time on January 30, 2013. He remained with the Bears through the completion of their season, which ended in a decisive Game Five of the AHL Eastern Conference Quarter-Finals against the Providence Bruins on Wednesday. In nineteen regular season games with the Bears, Wellar recorded one point (0g-1a) and fifty-two penalty minutes. He registered twenty-two penalty minutes in five playoff games with Hershey.
The Royals and Cyclones play Game Four of the best-of-seven Eastern Conference Finals tonight (Friday, May 10 @ 7:35 pm) at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio. Tonight's game night broadcast on CBS Sports Radio 1240 am and 98.5 fm will kick off with the pre-game warm-up show presented by Steve Moyer Subaru at 7:05 pm.
