Montgomery, AL - Behind another lights-out performance from Alex Wood and a two-run home run from Kyle Russell, the Mississippi Braves downed the Montgomery Biscuits 5-0 on Wednesday night.

Wood (2-1) pitched seven innings of two-hit ball for the Braves (21-12), striking out five and walking two en route to his second win. He's now pitched 29.2 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run.

For the fifth consecutive game, the Braves opened the scoring in the second. Christian Marrero hit his league-leading 12th double of the year and scored when Dan Brewer doubled him in with one out.

In the fifth, the Braves doubled their lead to 2-0 off Biscuits starter Merrill Kelly. Mycal Jones and Phil Gosselin walked with one out. Gosselin was thrown out on a double steal, but Christian Bethancourt had a two-out infield hit to score Jones.

Kelly got into trouble in the sixth when he walked Marrero on four pitches to lead off, then allowed an Edward Salcedo double to put Mississippi ahead 3-0. Two pitches later, Kyle Russell homered for his second time in as many games to make it 5-0.

The round tripper was Russell's third and extended his hit streak to a team-high 11 games.

Kelly (2-3) took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits over five innings. He walked five and struck out one. Marquis Fleming and Braulio Lara pitched two scoreless innings in relief for the Biscuits.

Mark Lamm pitched a scoreless final two frames for the Braves to shut the door.

The Braves have won 18 of their last 22 games and will try to take their fifth consecutive series on Friday night at 7:05 PM CT. RHP Gus Schlosser (3-1, 3.68), the reigning Southern League pitcher of the week, gets the start for the Braves against left-hander Enny Romero (1-0, 5.06).
