Atlantic League Player of the Year Returns to Lancaster

April 4, 2013 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release

Outfielder Blake Gailen, the Atlantic League Player of the Year in 2012, will be back at Clipper Magazine Stadium for the 2013 season, it was announced today by manager Butch Hobson.

Gailen, 28, captured the league batting crown last season with a .338 mark. He contributed 22 home runs and knocked in 89 while also stealing 25 bases. The California native led the circuit with a .415 on-base percentage and finished fourth with a slugging percentage of .534. He also ranked among the top five in runs, hits and total bases.

The left fielder put York in a deep hole in the opening round of the 2012 playoffs with three home runs and nine RBI in the first two games, giving Lancaster a lead on four different occasions. The Barnstormers went on to sweep the series in three games.

Last year's batting title was the second straight for the Nevada-Las Vegas product. He had won the American Association crown with a .406 mark for the Lincoln Saltdogs in 2011 before being signed by the Los Angeles Angels organization.

He signed with the Colorado Rockies during the off-season but was released from their minor league camp on the final day of spring training.

"Blake is a ballplayer in all aspects of the game," said Hobson. "Obviously, we're glad to have him back."

With the addition of Gailen, the Barnstormers have 24 players under contract for the 2013 season.

The Lancaster Barnstormers are entering their ninth season as a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Home games are played at Clipper Magazine Stadium in downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Please call 717.509.HITS (4487) or visit LancasterBarnstormers.com for more information.
