Evansville IceMen News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN.--- The Evansville IceMen proud ECHL affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets and St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League and the Springfield Falcons and Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League, in concert with the ECHL, have announced on this date that right wing KEVIN BAKER has been acclaimed SHER-WOOD HOCKEY ECHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK for the week of February 11th through February 17th.
BAKER, 33, enjoyed his most productive and successful week with the IceMen since his acquisition from Orlando in a major three-player trade back on December 7th of this current campaign. The nine-year pro veteran from Kingston, Ontario emerged as a major catalyst in his team's gigantic sweep of a two-game home-and-home series against Evansville's principal archrivals, the Fort Wayne Komets.
Crafting a prolific 7-points in 3-games on 4-goals, 3-assists and +1 rating in 3-games, the goal-cannoneering architect launched his week assisting on the IceMen lone goal the past Wednesday night in a 2-1 home ice setback inflicted by divisional rival Toledo. The 6-1, 202lb right wing became a formidable force and factor in his team's domination of the Komets on both Friday and Saturday nights. In the IceMen 6-1 convincing conquest at the Ford Center on Friday night, Baker registered his first 4-point masterpiece under the Evansville employ, firing a pair of goals including the game's FG on the power play while attaining a superlative +2 rating and the game's #1 Star. The seventh round draft pick of the Los Angeles Kings in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft performed an electrifying encore one night later in Fort Wayne. This time, his 2-goal strike consisted of another PPG as well as the ultimate GWG and another #1 Star salute.
Baker begins the new week riding the rising rapids of a 4-game point streak in which he has collected 8-points on 4-goals, 4-assists. Since his arrival on the Evansville ECHL scene, he has engineered 24-points in 28-games on 16-goals, 8-assists. For the season, Baker has totaled 33-points in 46-appearances through 20-goals and 13-assists. In his illustrious ECHL career, he has amassed 386-points in 363-games. As a standout member of the Florida Everblades in 2008-09, Baker captured the ECHL league-wide scoring crown and was named ECHL Most Valuable Player, scoring a career-high 57-goals.
Baker becomes the second IceMen player to be so honored by the ECHL. His teammate Dylan Clarke captured the same accolades the week of December 3rd through December 9th. On behalf of Kevin Baker, a case of pucks will be donated to an Evansville youth hockey organization by Sher-wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL.
