INDIANAPOLIS (Thursday, January 17, 2013) - The New England Revolution chose Generation adidas defender Andrew Farrell with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas, held today at the Indiana Convention Center. Farrell was one of seven members of the 2013 Generation adidas class to be selected in the SuperDraft. All seven were selected within the first 14 picks.

New England acquired the No. 1 overall selection from Toronto FC in a trade the night before the SuperDraft in order to select the 20-year-old forward. Farrell becomes the first University of Louisville player to be selected with the first overall pick in MLS draft history.

Chivas USA held the second pick overall and selected Mexican-American midfielder Carlos Alvarez. Alvarez, who grew up in Los Angeles, joins Chivas USA after completing four seasons and officially graduating from the University of Connecticut.

Toronto FC selected Canadian Kyle Bekker of Boston College with the No. 3 pick before trading the No. 4 overall selection, acquired from New England, to Vancouver for the Whitecaps FC's No. 10 pick.

The Whitecaps FC organization selected 18-year-old Generation adidas forward Kekuta Manneh with the No. 4 overall selection. Manneh became the first teenager taken in the SuperDraft in two years.

Boston College and Georgetown University saw players selected in the first round of the SuperDraft for the first time in the schools' histories. Georgetown saw defender Tommy Muller taken with the No. 15 selection by San Jose, while Boston College also had defender Charlie Rugg selected by defending MLS Cup champion LA Galaxy with the final pick of the first round. Boston College was one of three schools, along with the University of Notre Dame and the University of Maryland, to have two players selected in the first round.

Players from 26 colleges and universities were represented in the 38 selections overall. The University of Louisville and NCAA Division I College Cup finalist Georgetown University led with three selections each.
