Bulls Acquire Ouellet, Carlson, Galiardi; Trade Bowers and Guimond

January 14, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL) - San Francisco Bulls News Release

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The San Francisco Bulls Professional Hockey Team, proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, announced today that they have acquired forwards Christian Ouellet and Rylan Galiardi, and defenseman Cody Carlson from the Gwinnett Gladiators in exchange for forward Justin Bowers and defenseman Sacha Guimond.

"It's always hard to move one of your best players, especially your captain, but we felt after the lockout our lineup was depleted," said President/Head Coach Pat Curcio. We wanted to add some young skill to our team. When we lost Sacha to his call up, we were unsure we would get him back with the way he was playing, so we traded his rights for a young defenseman. We wish Justin and Sacha all the best the rest of the season and in the future."

Ouellet, 21, a rookie, currently ranks fourth on Gwinnett, among active players, with eight goals in 31 games. He has also added four assists. The Alma, Quebec native finished his fourth season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) in 2011-12. Last season he recorded 68 points (25 goals, 43 assists) in 68 games, split between the Gatineau Olympiques and Chicoutimi Sagueneens. In the 2012 post-season with Chicoutimi, Ouellet led his team with 13 goals and 18 points in 18 games. In 235 career QMJHL games, Ouellet recorded 162 points (61 goals, 101 assists).

Galiardi 26, is in his second year of professional hockey. He sits third on Gwinnett among active players with 21 points (11 goals, 10 assists) in 39 games. In 2011-12, the Calgary, Alberta native finished fifth on the Kelly Cup-winning Florida Everblades with 47 points (18 goals, 29 assists) in 61 games. Galiardi also has two assists in 13 American Hockey League games, split between the San Antonio Rampage, Providence Bruins and Bridgeport Sound Tigers. In four years with Minnesota State-Mankato, where he served as captain, Galiardi totaled 81 points (29 goals, 52 assists) in 140 games.

Carlson, 21, a rookie from Victoria, British Columbia, recorded eight points (2 goals, 6 assists) in 18 games on the blueline with Gwinnett this season. He completed his sixth season in the Western Hockey League in 2011-12, finishing with 135 points (25 goals, 110 assists) in 305 games. Carlson served as an alternate captain for the Prince George Cougars in 2011-12, ranking first on the team among defensemen in goals (9), assists (30) and points (39).
