Amarillo Bulls Have Plenty to be Thankful for as They Start Second Half

AMARILLO, TX - As the Amarillo Bulls get set to resume practices after the Christmas Break and get ready for three games in four days, they certainly have plenty to be thankful for during this special time.

The Bulls are currently first overall in the North American Hockey League with a mark of 23-3-3 for 49 points. Dennis Williams' charges have one more win then they hey had one year ago during Christmas where they once again led the overall standings. The Bulls are three points head of the Central Division leading Austin Bruins in the NAHL, but trail by just one percentage point for the best winning percentage to the West Division Wenatchee Wild.

The Bulls also have 21 wins in the South which is tied with the Soo Eagles for the most wins within a division.

There are several other categories where the Bulls are at top or near the lead. The Bulls are first overall in Goals For (4.31), first in Goals Against (2.10), first in Shots For (37.41), and first in Shots Against (21.90).

Amarillo also sits in the top 10 in special teams with the 7th best power play and the 8th best penalty kill. In shorthanded goals for and against, the Bulls are also among the top five in both categories 4th and 6th,respectively.

In various individual categories, Bulls' players are also either leading the way or among the NAHL's best. Paul Berrafato has the NAHL's best Goals Against Average at 1.78, and is third in wins with 16. Ryan Cole is third in Game Winning Goals with five and Tyler Deresky is also third in Shorthanded Goals with three.

In the plus-minus category, forward Mike Davis leads with plus 33 followed by Omar Mullan at plus 23.

John Rey is second in scoring among defenseman with 22 points. Rey is first in assists with 17, second in shots with 78 and third in plus minus at plus 19. Defenseman Geoff Fortman is second in plus-minus at plus 20.

It's a big weekend of hockey in the Texas Panhandle with three games in four nights. The action at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center begins on Friday when the Bulls host the Odessa Jackalopes at 7 pm. It's Faith and Family Night as well as $1 hotdogs. The Bulls and the Jackalopes will also hook up for a second game on Saturday also at 7 pm.

On Monday, it's the second annual New Years' Eve Game sponsored by Amarillo Community Federal Credit Union, as the Bulls entertain the Wichita Falls Wildcats at 7 pm. The Bulls will wear their specialty jerseys with an auction to follow immediately after the game in support of Amarillo Youth Hockey. Fans are encouraged to stay and ring in the New Year at the Amarillo Civic Center and participate in an extended public skate.
