Odessa Jackalopes News Release

JACKS LOOK TO RIGHT SHIP VS. AMARILLO

Mired in a season and NAHL-era long eight game regulation losing streak, the Odessa Jackalopes steady themselves for an opportunity for vengeance this weekend against the Amarillo Bulls in a two-game series at Ector County Coliseum.

After a pair of losses to the defending Robertson Cup champion Texas Tornado on Friday and Saturday, the Jacks remain alone in sixth place in the NAHL's South Division standings with 10 total points and a 4-18-2 record this season. In six regular season meetings with Amarillo in 2012-13, the Jackalopes have yet to earn a point.

Since joining the NAHL prior to the 2011-12 season, the Odessa Jackalopes have helped to establish a furious rivalry with Amarillo, but aside from a lone playoff victory during last year's South Division semi-finals, the Jackalopes have yet to earn a point vs. the Bulls, earing a 0-15-0 head-to-head record.

While the Jackalopes labor in the league's lower third in most major statistical categories, there are some elite elements of this year's Odessa squad. Lawrence Cornellier, the Jacks leading scorer with 23 points, is currently tied for third in the NAHL in power-play goals (6 PPG), Tyler Minx ranks fourth in the NAHL and first among defensemen in minor penalties (19), Steve Haydon is tied for first place league-wide in fighting majors (5) and the Jackalopes currently rank fourth in the NAHL in total attendence, drawing 29,374 total fans this year, a nightly average of 2,447.

CORNELLIER TALLIES 100TH CAREER NAHL POINT

On Friday, Saturday, November 24th, during the first period of his 120th career NAHL game, third year veteran and Jackalopes leading scorer Lawrence Cornellier passed a remarkable career milestone when the Machesney Park, Illinois native tallied his 99th and 100th career NAHL point in an 8-3 loss to the Amarillo Bulls.

Adding two assists in the Jacks' 6-3 loss to Texas on December 1st, Cornellier continues to pace all Odessa scorers in 2012-13 with 13 goals, 10 assists and 23 total points so far this season, just one goal shy of his 2011-12 season total.

Cornellier, Odessa's defending "Sebastien Thinel Trophy" winner as team scoring champion looks to continue his offensive onslaught this weekend vs. Amarillo. In six head-to-head meetings vs. the Bulls this year, Cornellier has notched three goals and four total points.

JACKS ARE KINGS OF "MOVEMBER"

As part of the North American Hockey League's "Movember" fundraising efforts, the Odessa Jackalopes led all NAHL teams in fundraising revenue during the November-long campaign to "change the face of men's health" and help raise awareness and financial support in the fight against men's cancers. Not only are the Jacks fundraising champs, but Odessa centerman Pat Thompson took down the NAHL's 2012 individual "Movember" fundraising title as the Hellertown, Pennsylvania native earned over one third of the Jacks total "Movember" proceeds.
