Hampus Gustafsson Commits to Merrimack College

November 9, 2012 - North American Hockey League (NAHL) - Amarillo Bulls News Release

AMARILLO, TX - Hampus Gustafsson's excellent start to the 2012-2013 season for the Amarillo Bulls has quickly been noticed by NCAA hockey scouts.

Gustafsson, who has 17 points in his first 15 games with the Bulls, announced his NCAA commitment today (Friday) to Merrimack College, joining his brother John who is already at the school.

"I went to Merrimack for a visit and really liked the campus and the hockey program," Gustafsson said. "I'm looking forward to going there."

Gustafsson's hot start includes eight goals and nine assists and 39 shots on goal. He also has several multiple point games. Hampus Gustafsson said to join his brother John at the school is an exciting time for he and his family.

"John and I haven't played together for the last five years. We have always talked about doing i again," he said. "My mom and dad will think it's great because they will be able to go to one place to see us."

Bulls Head Coach Dennis Williams said he had a similar opportunity to play with his own brother, and added that is thrilled for Hampus and his opportunity.

"Hampus is showing himself to be a very good all-around player," Williams commented. "He is very responsible inside the defensive zone and moves well for a 6 foot 4 center. I think his biggest quality is that he is a smart hockey player. His IQ is very good and understands the game. Hampus makes changes in his own game when need be."

Williams said that Merrimack Head Coach Mark Dennehy and staff have done a great job in watching the Bulls players, and for having a rapport with the team's coaching staff.

Hampus Gustafsson becomes the fifth Bulls player this season to commit to play NCAA hockey. He joins TJ Sarcona (Niagara), Tyler Rostenkowski (Air Force), Kyle Plageman (Army), and Joe Grabowski (Princeton).

The Amarillo Bulls visit the Topeka RoadRunners for two games tonight (Friday) and tomorrow night at 7 pm at Kansas Expo Center Landon Arena. Fans can tune into the action live on ESPN1440 and www.amarillobulls.com beginning with pre-game coverage at 6:45 pm. Denis J. Puska has the exciting play-by-play call at 7 pm.
