Terre Haute Rex News Release

Terre Haute - The Terre Haute REX Baseball organization announced today that Ronnie Prettyman will become the team's manager for the 2013 season. Prettyman served as a bench coach for the REX during the 2012 and 2011 seasons.

"I am grateful for the opportunity that the REX have given me," Prettyman said. "Terre Haute has embraced the REX and when a city like this cares and is supportive, it is hard not to get excited."

Prettyman is the successor to Brian Dorsett, who coached the team for the past three seasons. Dorsett earned a 101-71 overall record and lead the team to two post season playoff appearances. He was named the 2012 Prospect League Co-Manager of the Year.

"Ronnie loves the game of baseball and is passionate about the right way to play. He respects the game and has total respect and buy-in from the players," Dorsett said. "Ronnie was a dedicated assistant coach for me for two years and I am so happy to have him take over as manager of the REX."

During his time with the Rex, Prettyman said he has learned much about coaching from Indiana State University baseball coach Rick Heller and from Dorsett.

"Both of them have helped me grow as a coach and they have prepared me for the administrative duties that come with being in charge of a team," he said.

As a volunteer assistant coach for Indiana State during the 2012 season, Prettyman assisted the Sycamores to their first outright Missouri Valley Conference regular season baseball championship in program history and their first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 1995.

"I have played at a high level collegiately and professionally and have played for many great coaches," he said "I know what these players are going through on a daily basis because I was going through the same things a few years ago."

Prettyman was a third baseman for Cal State Fullerton from 2003-2005. He was a part of the Titans' 2003 and 2004 College World Series teams, including the 2004 National Championship team.

He was drafted twice during his collegiate career, going in the 28th round to the Milwaukee Brewers in 2004 and in the 10th round to the Seattle Mariners in 2005. He signed with the Mariners in 2005, playing five seasons in their minor league system. During his professional career, Prettyman achieved a .263 batting average and averaged six home runs and 36 RBIs a season over his five years.

"We have worked hard to set an expectation of high quality baseball for our team year in and year out. Ronnie understands what we are trying to accomplish and has been a part of our success. With Ronnie's baseball experience we expect to continue to be a strong contender in the Prospect League," said Casey DeGroote, general manager for the REX.

DeGroote is in his first full season as general manager, taking over the day-to-day operations and overall management of the team from Roland Shelton. Shelton's involvement with the REX will continue at the Prospect League level.

Prettyman said his main goal for the 2013 season is to help members of the REX develop as players and as people.

That is my most important job," he said. "When players come here, I want them to get better. It is also important that our players are seen in the community as positive influences and that they represent the Terre Haute REX in a professional manner."

To see Ronnie Prettyman and the REX in action this summer, season tickets are available now through the REX at www.threxbaseball.com or 812-514-8434.
