Pirates Sign Evan Brophey to Professional Try-Out Agreement

Portland, Maine - Portland Pirates General Manager Brad Treliving announced today that the Pirates have signed forward Evan Brophey to a professional try-out agreement (PTO).

The 6-foot-1, 205 pound Brophey registered 18-21-39 and 58 penalty minutes (PIM) in 72 games with the Lake Erie Monsters during the 2011-12 season; finishing first on the team in scoring. He also appeared in three games with Colorado (NHL).

The 25-year-old native of Kitchener, ON has recorded 44-64-108 and 233 PIM in 299 career AHL regular season games with Lake Erie and Rockford. He also registered 109-182-291 and 326 PIM in 321 career OHL games with Plymouth, Belleville and Barrie.

Brophey was originally selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the third round (68th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

The Pirates' home opener will be played this Friday, October 19 at 7 p.m. in Lewiston, Maine at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée against the Worcester Sharks. The club will play its first game in Portland on Friday, November 2 at 7:30 p.m. vs. St. John's at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
