Gibson's Finest CFL Players of the Week Named

October 16, 2012 - Canadian Football League (CFL) News Release


TORONTO - Hugh Charles, Shea Emry and Grant Shaw were named the Gibson's Finest CFL Players of the Week for Week 16, the Canadian Football League announced today.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

RB - Edmonton Eskimos

Saskatchewan Roughriders 20 @ Edmonton Eskimos 37

Edmonton Eskimos running back Hugh Charles was named the Offensive Player of the Week for Week 16. Charles compiled a career high152 rushing yards and one touchdown on 17 carries and added another nine yards on one reception in the Eskimos' 37-20 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Charles ran for an impressive 119 yards in the second half and helped his team to a crucial victory in their hunt for a playoff spot while earning his first 2012 Player of the Week award in the process.

Montreal Alouettes 24 @ Toronto Argonauts 12

Montreal Alouettes linebacker Shea Emry was named the Defensive and Canadian Player of the Week for Week 16. The Richmond, B.C native registered four tackles, one sack and one interception that he returned for a touchdown in the Als' 24-12 win over the Toronto Argonauts.

Emry intercepted a Jarious Jackson pass with 9:11 remaining in the fourth quarter and returned it 46 yards for the touchdown. The play was a turning point late in the game as the Argonauts trailed by just five points prior to Emry's touchdown. Emry's strong play earned him his second and third 2012 Player of the Week awards.

Grant Shaw

K - Edmonton Eskimos

Saskatchewan Roughriders 20 @ Edmonton Eskimos 37

Edmonton Eskimos kicker Grant Shaw was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 16. Shaw was three for four on field goal attempts and four for four on extra point conversions in the Eskimos' 37-20 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Commonwealth Stadium.

Shaw's 13-point effort earned him his second 2012 Player of the Week award and helped his team to an important win against a tough division rival.
