Indiana Ice News Release
HOMECOMING SOON: The Indiana Ice wrap up their six-game road trip this week after finishing a three-game weekend series 0-2-1. Indy pumped out 42 shots and converted on three of six power plays in Thursday's 6-5 loss to the Fargo Force. The team received two-point efforts from Matt Krug (2A), Austin Ortega (G, A), Robbie Baillargeon (G, A) and Brian Morgan (G, A), while Woody Hudson and Joe Fiala also had goals. Josh Jacobs logged two assists on Friday as the Ice fell to the Sioux Falls Stampede, 4-2 with Zach Aman and Bo Pieper recording goals in the game. Mattias Soderqvist stopped 39 shots in net. Indy wrapped up the weekend dropping a tough 3-2 overtime decision to the Sioux City Musketeers. Fiala and Krug were the goal scorers, while Dalton Izyk stopped an Ice season-high 41 shots between the pipes.
EVERY SECOND COUNTS: One second was the difference between a goal and a franchise record for Bo Pieper as the first-year Iceman scored a goal ten seconds into the second period in Friday's game against the Sioux Falls Stampede. Pieper's goal falls one second short of the Ice all-time record for fastest goal from the start of the period set by Ben Albertson-Vermont on October 10, 2008 against Fargo.
POINTS FROM THE POINT: Veteran defensemen Matt Krug and Joe Fiala have established themselves at the beginning of this season as one of the top defensive pairs in the USHL. Through the first seven games, the duo has combined for seven points (3G, 4A) while currently ranking in a tie for second (Krug- four points) and a tie for fourth (Fiala-three points) in the USHL in scoring among league blueliners.
EXTRA-MAN EXPERTISE: The Ice continues their excellence on the man advantage, ranking second in the league in power play conversion (23.8%). Indy's four power play goals on the road leads the USHL and the six total power play goals are tied for third.
PLAYER TASTINGS: Dalton Izyk tied a league high with 17 saves in the third period on Saturday...All three of Matt Krug's assists have been on the power play...Austin Ortega is tied for first with two power play goals...Alex Smith is tied for second among defensemen in shots on net (17)...Brian Morgan has three points in his last three games. TEAM TOPPINGS: Indy is second in the league in shots (219)...The Ice is fifth in goals against per game (3.14)...Indy scored a season-high three power play goals in Friday's loss at Fargo.
