Alaska Aces News Release
Andrew Sarauer and Eric Springer scored key third period goals to help vault the Las Vegas Wranglers over the Alaska Aces 4-2 on Tuesday night from Sullivan Arena in the exhibition finale. The Aces finished with a 1-1 preseason record, while the Wranglers improved to 1-3. The game concluded with a jersey auction of the Aces black and pink specialty sweaters as part of the 6th Annual "Paint the Rink Pink" fundraiser to benefit the local fight against breast cancer. The Aces will now hit the road to visit the Colorado Eagles on Friday and Saturday night for the start of the regular season. They then return home to Sullivan Arena on October 19 and 20 to host the Utah Grizzlies. Tickets are currently on sale for both games. The Aces outshot the Wranglers 9-6 in the first period, but allowed the only goal. Las Vegas scored at 8:05 on an odd-man rush when Carlo Finucci fed Mickey Lang at the bottom of the slot, and Lang squeezed a shot through James Reid and into the net.
The Aces killed off a two-man advantage to open the second period after a pair of carry-over calls from the opening frame. The Aces got on the board at 9:36 when NHL forward Nate Thompson redirected a Jordan Kremyr pass from the bottom of the slot. Thompson's goal came in his Aces debut and tied the score at 1-1. The Wranglers reclaimed the lead at 15:11 on a sharp-angle shot that found a hole between the arm and body of Reid to make it 2-1 Las Vegas. The Aces answered for a second time in the period when Tommy Mele scored on a breakaway at 17:57. Mele's second goal in as many preseason games made it 2-2 at second intermission. The Wranglers outshot the Aces 15-7 in the period.
With the game up for grabs Las Vegas controlled play in the third period. They outshot the Aces 9-2 and got a goal 1:42 into the frame from Sarauer and 10:05 from Springer.
James Reid (0-1) took the loss making 26 saves on 30 shots while Mitch O'Keefe (1-1) earned the win, making 16 saves on 18 shots. The Aces went 0-3 on the power play and the Wranglers went 1-7. Alaska outshot Las Vegas 30-18 in the game.
