Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Taylor Cammarata and Vince Hinostroza combined for a pair of third period goals Friday to rally the Waterloo Black Hawks past the Green Bay Gamblers for a 4-3 victory at the Resch Center in the first game of the new United States Hockey League season.

Trailing 3-2 after the second intermission, Justin Kloos and Zach Stepan worked a puck into the crease from behind the net during an early power play. It squirted from there to Taylor Cammarata who fired it into an open net at :59. Just over three minutes later, Cammarata dropped a pass to Hinostroza who fired a shot under the crossbar to cap a three-on-two rush. Waterloo protected the lead as Eamon McAdam delivered 33 saves in the win.

In the opening period, Kloos had carried the puck all the way to the crease during a two-on-one opportunity before sending a shot into the net off of goalie Richard Sabol at 4:52 for the first goal of the season. Just 63 seconds later, Green Bay answered during an odd-man situation of their own. Alex Kile put in a chance after linemates Sheldon Dries and Kevin Irwin combined to set him up.

Waterloo pulled ahead again in the second, but it was the Gamblers who took the edge to intermission. Just after a Hawks power play ended, Ryan Papa put a low shot from below the right wing circle through the pads of Sabol at 7:32. Less the two minutes later with the Gamblers on an advantage, Kyle Novak tipped a shot to the top corner of the net. Then with just over two minutes remaining before intermission, a feed across the low slot found Grigory Dikushin who put his chance into an open side.

A group of any size can still enjoy the Black Hawks home opener Saturday in Party Town. Game time is 7:05 as Waterloo hosts the Sioux Falls Stampede. The first 2,500 fans in attendance will take home a magnetic schedule courtesy of Bergan Paulsen Consultants.
