Rodriguez Rips Barnstormers

(Lancaster, PA. - September 4, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (24-26, 55-65), stormed back to score nine runs in the final two innings and defeat the Lancaster Barnstormers (34-18, 79-43) by a score of 12-5 on Tuesday at Clipper Magazine Stadium. The victory matched the teams' largest comeback of the year. Bridgeport is 4-11 against Lancaster this season and trails Southern Maryland by five games in the Liberty Division standings.The Bluefish had been trailing 4-0 when the Bluefish scored three runs in the fourth inning before Lancaster pushed across a run in the fifth. Bridgeport responded by plating four more in the eighth and five in the ninth.
Luis Rodriguez had an RBI single in the fourth and a two-run drive to right to break a 5-5 tie. The catcher finised with five RBI. Brad Boyer reached base four times and drove in two runs on two hits. Kennard Jones reached base four times on three hits including a game-tying infield single to second in the eighth inning. The outfielder scored three times. Willis Otanez extended his on-base streak to eleven consecutive games with two hits and two runs. Luis Lopez also earned two hits and two runs but also brought in two runners. Joey Gathright and Luis Figueroa earned multiple hit nights. Every starter but one had at least two hits and six of the nine players scored on Tuesday.
Lancaster pushed across three runs in the first inning, another in the third, and one more in the fifth. Fehlandt Lentini drove in three of the five runners, with three hits, and scored twice. Ryan Harvey contributed two hits and drove in a runner. Tommy Everidge drove in the only other run on the night for the winning side. Gilberto Mejia scored twice and stole two bases against the Bluefish.
Bluefish starter, Gilbert De La Vara (10-8), picked up the victory as the southpaw lasted seven innings and gave up five runs on seven hits and one walk while fanning five. Julio DePaula struck out two batters in a scoreless eighth while Pat Bresnahan recorded the final three outs of the night without allowing a baserunner. It was the first time the Massachusetts native set foot on the mound for Bridgeport since 2010.
Barnstormers hurler, Mark Brackman, did not factor in the decision as the righthanded starter completed six innings of three run, nine hit, one walk, and five strikeout baseball. Six relievers combined for the final nine outs of the night which included losing pitcher Jeff Bennett (4-7). The tandem of pitchers surrendered nine runs on ten hits and two walks while fanning two.
The Bluefish continue a road series against the Lancaster Barnstormers on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00. Bridgeport will send righthanded pitcher, Brad Thompson (3-4, 4.28 ERA) against Lancaster righthanded starter Dwayne Pollok (12-2, 2.11 ERA).
