Brevard County Manatees News Release

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees fell behind early and couldn't come back as they were doubled up by the Daytona Cubs, 4-2 on Saturday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach.

Brandon Williamson (4-10, 5.65) got the start on the mound for the Manatees and allowed a homer to the first batter that he faced as John Andreoli took him deep to lead off the top of the first. Two batters later, Christian Villanueva singled to left and he would score later in the inning with two outs on a RBI single from Nelson Perez.

The 'Tees (34-32 second half, 63-71 overall) would get one run back in the top of the fourth as Shea Vucinich drove in Jason Rogers with a two-out RBI single. Daytona (28-36, 58-74) though would extend its lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the inning thanks to a RBI single by Rafael Lopez that drove in Perez. Perez led off the inning with a double off of Williamson.

The Cubs would score one more run off of Williamson in the fifth with two outs as Villanueva reached on an error by third baseman Mike Walker, that allowed Andreoli to score.

Williamson threw six innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits, while walking two and striking out two. Eric Arnett held the Cubs scoreless the rest of the way as he threw two shutout innings and fanned two hitters.

Brevard's best chance to get back into the game was in the top of the seventh as Parker Berberet started the rally with a one-out double to right. Berberet advanced to third on as John Dishon reached on a bunt single and then Franklin Romero Jr. singled to center to plate Berberet and cut Daytona's lead to two.

With Nick Shaw at the plate, the 'Tees were successful in executing a double steal as Romero Jr. went to second and Dishon to third. Shaw would eventually draw a walk to load the bases with one out. The rally though would end with Reggie Keen at the plate as he grounded into a 5-4-3 double play to end the threat and the inning.

The Brevard County Manatees will close out the 2012 season on Sunday evening at 5:35 p.m. against the Cubs. Nick Bucci (2-2, 1.90) will get the start and Drew Gagnon (1-2, 2.82) is scheduled to follow him out of the bullpen in the season finale.
