2012-13 NBA Development League Schedule Announced

August 30, 2012 - NBA Development League (D-League)

NEW YORK, Aug. 30, 2012- The NBA Development League today released its schedule for the 2012-13 season, which again features 16 teams playing 50 games each. The league also announced that CBS Sports Network for the first time will present regular season and postseason games. The upcoming season includes an all-time high 11 NBA D-League teams having single-affiliation relationships with their NBA parent clubs.

The 12th NBA D-League season tips off on Friday, Nov. 23, when the Canton Charge hosts the Maine Red Claws at 7 p.m. ET. Opening night continues when the Fort Wayne Mad Ants host the Erie BayHawks at 7:30 p.m. ET, the Texas Legends, under the helm of former NBA star Eduardo Najera, travel to face the Tulsa 66ers at 8 p.m. ET, and the Rio Grande Valley Vipers welcome the Bakersfield Jam at 8 p.m. ET.

NBA TV will present over 30 games this season, including its NBA D-League Game of the Week airing each Sunday during the regular season. The network will also provide extensive coverage during the NBA D-League Showcase, and the NBA D-League All-Star Game taking place in Houston during NBA All-Star 2013. In addition, NBA TV will cover the race for the NBA D-League title when it airs postseason games.

CBS Sports Network's comprehensive coverage will feature 12 live regular season games, including two from the 2013 NBA D-League Showcase, as well as 2013 NBA D-League Playoffs and Finals action. The network will also provide exclusive coverage of the "3-Point Shootout" and "Slam Dunk Contest" from the 2013 NBA D-League Showcase. CBS Sports Network's full broadcast schedule will be released at a later date. For more information about the network's coverage, go to www.cbssportsnetwork.com .

The defending NBA D-League champion Austin Toros tip off their 2012-13 campaign on Wednesday, Nov. 28, when the team travels north to face the Legends in Frisco, Texas.

The Golden State Warriors' NBA D-League team, whose relocation from Bismarck, N.D. to Northern California is expected to be finalized and approved in the coming weeks, plays its first game when the team travels to face the Reno Bighorns at 10 p.m. ET on Friday, Nov. 30.

The 2012-13 NBA D-League season will feature three divisions, East (Canton, Erie, Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Maine, and Springfield Armor), Central (Austin, Iowa Energy, Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Sioux Falls Skyforce, Texas and Tulsa), and West (Bakersfield, Idaho Stampede, Los Angeles D-Fenders, Reno, and the Warriors' NBA D-League team).

"Coming off of a record-breaking 11th season in 2011-12, we're excited to tip off another outstanding year in the NBA D-League," said Dan Reed, NBA D-League President. "With 11 NBA teams now having one-to-one relationships with their NBA D-League affiliates, and an exciting new partnership with CBS Sports Network, we're thrilled about what this season has in store."

The Bighorns will once again host the NBA D-League Showcase from Jan. 7-10 in Reno, Nev. with the specific game schedule to be announced at a later date, while the NBA D-League All-Star Game is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 16 in Houston in conjunction with NBA All-Star activities.

Of the 11 singly-affiliated NBA D-League teams, five teams are fully owned and operated by their NBA parent club, including the Austin Toros (San Antonio Spurs), Canton Charge (Cleveland Cavaliers), Los Angeles D-Fenders (Los Angeles Lakers), Tulsa 66ers (Oklahoma City Thunder) and the team owned by the Golden State Warriors. An additional five teams have a hybrid relationship with their NBA parent club, including the Erie BayHawks (New York Knicks), Idaho Stampede (Portland Trail Blazers), Maine Red Claws (Boston Celtics), Rio Grande Valley Vipers (Houston Rockets), and Springfield Armor (Brooklyn Nets). The hybrid partnership gives an NBA team control of the NBA D-League team's basketball operations while local ownership retains control of the business. The Texas Legends have a one-to-one relationship with the Dallas Mavericks.
