
BayBears Tie Series with Convincing 9-3 Win over Jackson

MOBILE, ALA. (AUGUST 22, 2012) - The BayBears scored six runs in the first three innings and knocked off the Generals convincingly at Hank Aaron Stadium Wednesday, 9-3. The Mobile win evened the series at 2-2 forcing the rubber match of the series on Thursday night. Jackson now trails Chattanooga by three games in the division with 11 games remaining in the regular season.
The BayBears jumped on the Generals early Wednesday night. Mobile pushed across three runs in the first inning on an RBI double by Matt Davidson and 2-RBI double by Ryan Strieby.
Mobile made the score 5-1 in the second inning by adding two runs on a 2-RBI single from Davidson.
Trailing 6-1 in the fifth, Brad Miller extended his hitting streak to seven games with a double that scored Francisco Martinez and made the score 6-2.
Mobile's Ed Easley belted an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth to push their advantage to 7-2. Brent Clevlen hit a 2-run homer in the seventh and put the game out of reach at 9-2.
Jackson did add a run in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly from Chih-Hsien Chiang creating the final 9-3.
Jackson starter Steve Garrison suffered the loss allowing 7 runs (6 earned) on 10 hits in 5.0 innings. Garrison walked a season-high 4 batters and struck out none. 39-year-old righty Brett Tomko (2-0) won his second straight game since joining the BayBears giving up just 2 runs on 5 hits in 5.0 innings Wednesday.
Denny Almonte was 2-for-4 in the loss while Jesus Sucre was 2-for-4 with a run for Jackson. Francisco Martinez scored two runs and was 1-for-4.
The Generals continue their 10-game road trip and five-game series in Mobile on Wednesday with game five of the set. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. RHP Taijuan Walker (7-7, 4.11) starts for the Generals opposite RHP Chase Anderson (4-3, 2.61) for the BayBears.The game will be available on NewsTalk 101.5 FM, jacksongeneralsbaseball.com and the Generals TuneIn Radio Station.
