Biscuits Protect 1st Place with Double-Header Sweep

PENSACOLA, Fla.- The Biscuits (69-57/33-25) swept the double-header against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (63-64/29-29) by winning game one 4-2 in dramatic fashion and taking game two 3-1 behind a Matt Buschmann (6-7) complete game Tuesday night at Bayfront Stadium.

In a seven-inning game, Michael Sheridan led off the eighth inning in game one against the Wahoos' closer, Justin Freeman (3-6), who had not given up a run in 26.1 consecutive-innings. Sheridan pounded a home run to right-field which would prove to be the game-winner. Mikie Mahtook added an RBI-single that scored Mark Thomas to give the Biscuits a 4-2 lead.

Kyle Lobstein was masterful through six shutout-innings. The lefty struck out seven and only allowed two hits for the no-decision.

Lobstein matched Pensacola starter, Tony Cingrani, who took a perfect game into the sixth inning. Greg Sexton worked a one-out walk in the sixth to break up the perfect game. Thomas followed up with a double to erase the no-hitter. Shawn O'Malley then pouned an RBI-groundout to plate the first run of the game.

Kirby Yates (4-2) had a chance to save the game in the seventh with Montgomery leading 2-0. Yates walked Donald Lutz with one out, then got P.J. Phillips to fly out for the second out of the inning. The Wahoos were down to their last strike when Tucker Barnhart hit a game-tying home run, only his second home run for Pensacola. Yates got his second chance in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Wahoos put the bases loaded with only one out, but Yates struck David Vidal out for the second out and induced a groundball from Lutz to end the game and earn the win.

Billy Hamilton made baseball history in the third inning when he picked up his 146th stolen base of the season, the most ever in a single minor-league season. Hamilton singled with two outs, stole second to tie the record, then stole his way into the record books with his theft of third. Hamilton past Vince Coleman who stole 145 bases in 1983.

In game two, Mayo Acosta hit a solo home run to start the scoring for the Biscuits, while Buschmann tossed his fourth career complete game in a 3-1 Biscuits win.

The Biscuits now have a three-game lead over the Jacksonville Suns and a four-game lead over the Wahoos for first place in the South Division.

Game four of the season will be Wednesday night at 7:05. RHP Nick Barnese will head to the mound for Montgomery, while Pensacola will send out RHP Mark Serrano.
