Pearl, MS - The Mississippi Braves are proud to announce that M-Braves Jose Lugo has been named the Southern League Pitcher of the Week from August 13th to August 19th. Lugo is the second M-Brave to receive the honor this season. The first M-Brave given the title was Sean Gilmartin for the week of July 2nd to July 8th.

Lugo's first appearance during the week was on Tuesday, August 14th against the Jackson Generals at Pringles Park. Lugo went five innings, during game two of the double header, only giving up two runs (one earned), but in the process fanned seven batters.

His second outing of the week was on Sunday, August 19th, where Lugo threw seven innings and struck out eight batters without giving up a run. He limited the Stars to a single hit and only two walks, however, his performance did not factor into the decision. This game marked his third quality start of the season in Double-A.

Since opening day Lugo has split the season between AA-Mississippi and AAA-Gwinnett. In Mississippi, Lugo's record stands at 3-3 with a 3.34 ERA and 41 strikeouts while in Gwinnett, the Dominican is 2-6 with a 6.50 ERA and 50 strikeouts.

Mississippi's next game is tonight at Trustmark Park with the first pitch scheduled for 7:00 PM. Tonight David Hale (7-4, 4.08 ERA) will be throwing against the Huntsville Stars' Ariel Pena (0-2, 8.83 ERA).
