THE HILLCATS: The Hillcats lost to the Frederick Keys last night 3-1...After waiting through a 2 hour and 35 minute rain delay prior to the first pitch the Keys and 'Cats started at 9:35pm last night...RHP Devin Jones dominated for the Keys...He gave up just one run on a solo shot for 3B Edward Salcedo...RHP Gus Schlosser gave up three runs in five innings and took the loss for Lynchburg...The Hillcats are now 21-25 in the second half and are tied for third place in the Northern Division, still just 1.5 games out of first...

VS. CAROLINA: Lynchburg is 7-10 against the Mudcats this season...That is their worst record against any team in the league this year...In fact, the Mudcats are the only team with a winning record against the Hillcats...Last weekend, the two teams met in Carolina, the Hillcats won two out of three...

TRENDING DOWN: The Hillcats lost their fourth straight game last night...It's their fifth losing streak of three games or more in the second half...They only had three such streaks, including their season-worst eight-game slide, in the first half...After never dropping below .500 in the entire first half, the Hillcats will go into tonight's contest under .500 for the seventh straight game...They are now four games under .500 for the first time in the second half, but still just 1.5 games out of first place in the lowly Northern Division...

I'M SORRY WILSON!: RHP Andrew Wilson pitched a perfect 11th innings Tuesday night, and then retired the the first batter in the 12th, extending his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 20...The next batter reached on an error, and Wilson was relived by LHP Matt Chaffee to face lefty Tyler Townsend coming to the plate...Townsend struck out, but the next batter singled, and another error led to an unearned run, charged to Wilson, to score...The streak ended at 20...

SWEEP THE LEG: The Hillcats were swept in Frederick this week in three games...It was the third time the Hillcats had been swept this season (all in three-game series)...Two of the sweeps have come at the hands of the Frederick Keys in the last 10 days...The Keys still hold the worst overall record in the circuit at 49-66, but are now in first place in the second half at 22-23, thanks in large part to the Hillcats... The Keys were swept by the by the Myrtle Beach Pelicans between sweeps of the Hillcats...

JUST A WAITING GAME: A season-long rain delay (2:35) was followed by the a two hour and three minute, nine-inning game...That matched the Hillcats' shortest nine-inning game of the season...The 'Cats scored just one run on a solo homer, and batted only four more than the minimum...

SCH 'LOSS' ER: RHP Gus Schlosser gave up three earned runs in five innings last night, and suffered the his first loss since June 24, when he gave up five runs, four earned in six innings against Myrtle Beach...Prior to last night he had given up just four earned runs over his last seven starts (45IP)...Went 4-0 with a 0.80 ERA during that stretch, and at one point strung together 29 consecutive scoreless innings, the second-best streak in Hillcats history (back to 1995)...The streak was snapped last Friday in Carolina...

THE RISE OF ROHM: OF David Rohm went 1-for-3 last night...He was activated from the disabled list Thursday...Now on a seven-game hitting streak since returning, batting .444 (12-for-27) with a home run, two RBI, and four runs scored...Had missed nine games after getting plunked on the hand July 22 in Carolina...It was his second stint of the DL...He missed five weeks, late April into May, after jamming his foot into the fence in foul territory making a catch in Salem...Rohm lifted his average up to .256 last night, the highest it's been since he was batting .257 after an 0-for-2 day June 8 against Frederick...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Jordan Cooper was selected in the ninth round of the 2010 draft by the Cleveland Indians out of Wichita State University...Cooper was drafted after his sophomore year of college because he had already turned 21 May 10, 2010...He went 8-6 with a 2.78 ERA his freshman year of college and struck out 91 batters in 97 innings...Named a second team Freshman All-American by Baseball America...Made his pro debut in 2010 with Short-season Mahoning Valley (NYP)...Went 5-5 with a 4.94 ERA in 14 games, 13 starts...Moved up to Low-A Lake County in 2011...Started the season in the bullpen but became a regular starter...Went 2-9 with a 4.73 ERA in 27 games, 16 starts...Only 68 strikeouts in 104.2 innings...Began 2012 back with Lake County but was promoted on April 12 to Carolina...He is 6-5 with a 4.13 ERA in 23 appearances...He makes just his third start of the season tonight...He has faced the Hillcats twice in relief...Gave up five runs on six hits, three homers on April 24...Then, pitched four perfect innings against them on July 20...In his first start against the Hillcats, he gave up four runs on nine hits in five and two-thirds innings last Saturday, lost...
