-SPIKES LOOK TO REBOUND IN FINAL GAME OF HOMESTAND: The State College Spikes took a tough loss last night, but can still earn a series victory tonight as they take on the Aberdeen IronBirds in the final game of a three-game set at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. State College is 2-3 so far in a six-game homestand, having gone 1-2 against the McNamara Division-leading Hudson Valley Renegades to start the homestand. The IronBirds hold the all-time series lead, 12-7, and a 6-5 edge in games at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

-LAST GAME: Jesus Vasquez homered to lead the Spikes' offensive charge early, and the Spikes took a 9-3 lead into the seventh inning. However, the Aberdeen IronBirds put together their own surge, including a four-run ninth inning, to take a 10-9 decision last night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Derek Trent had three hits for the Spikes and Tyler Gaffney reached base four times. Luis Heredia went five innings and allowed three runs on four hits and a walk in a no-decision.

-PEREZ GOES TO THE HILL FOR SPIKES TONIGHT: RIght-hander Clario Perez makes his third start of the year for the Spikes this evening. Perez started his 2012 season with Single-A West Virginia, going 1-1 with two saves and a 5.84 ERA in 16 relief appearances. Perez also spent three years in the Dominican Summer League before coming to the States this year. The righty had his best year as a pro in 2011, when he went 3-2 with a 2.12 ERA in 14 appearances, 13 of them starts.

-O'S TOP PICK GAUSMAN MAKES PRO DEBUT TONIGHT: Right-hander Kevin Gausman, the Orioles' number-one pick in the 2012 MLB Draft, is slated to start for the IronBirds tonight in his professsional debut. Gausman was the fourth overall pick in the draft, and went 12-2 with a 2.77 ERA and 135 strikeouts to just 28 walks in 123 2/3 innings for LSU this past spring. The Centennial, CO native was also drafted in the sixth round by the Dodgers in 2010.

-OUCH! GAFFNEY NEARS NYPL HBP RECORD: Tyler Gaffney was hit by two more pitches in last night's game, bringing his total to 16 on the season in just 25 games played. Gaffney has already smashed the previous single-season Spikes record of 9. The NYPL record (since the short season was adopted in 1967) is 24, set by Mahoning Valley's Christopher Gimenez in 2004.

-SPIKE MARKS: The Spikes are 7-2 in one-run games at home this year...Last night's game was the first game this year in which the Spikes lost a game after leading through eight innings...Clay Holmes leads the NYPL in both earned run average (0.94) and opponents' batting average (.138)...Jacob Stallings is fifth in the league with 15 doubles, just two shy of the league lead in that stat
