Pederson's Heroics Save Quakes on Thursday
August 3, 2012 - California League (CalL) Rancho Cucamonga Quakes
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Joc Pederson's three-run triple in the bottom of the 11th inning capped a wild comeback on Thursday night at The Epicenter, as the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes avoided a three-game sweep, downing the 66ers by a score of 8-7.After trailing 6-5 in the tenth, the Quakes came up with the tying run, but couldn't take advantage of a bases-loaded, no-out opportunity, leaving the winning run stranded in the tenth.
Inland Empire turned around and scored twice in the top of the 11th inning, taking a two-run advantage over Quakes' reliever Ryan O'Sullivan (2-2).
66ers' reliever Eric Cendejas (3-3) struggled with his command in the 11th though, as he hit Jan Vazquez, then walked Casio Grider to put the tying runs aboard. Scott Wingo then legged out a bunt-hit, loading the bases for Pederson, who delivered a shot off the base of the right-field fence, clearing the bases and sending the Quakes to just their seventh win in 25 games against the 66ers this year.
The Quakes (16-24, 53-57) pull to within four games of the Wild Card, thanks to Lancaster's loss in Stockton on Thursday night. Rancho will look to build some momentum in Lake Elsinore on Friday, as they open a three-game set against the Storm. Ted Lilly (0-1) will pitch for the Quakes as part of a rehab assignment, while Matt Branham (4-1) will throw for the Storm. First pitch from The Diamond in Lake Elsinore is 7:05pm.
The Quakes return to The Epicenter on Friday, August 11th, opening a three-game home stand against the Storm, with another Family RV $1 Family Feast Night, as all hot dogs, Pepsi products and ice cream sandwiches will be just $1 throughout the night. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
